Logan’s Current Masjid
Logan Islamic Center is one of the first mosques in Utah and is located at 748 N 600 E in Logan. It was established on December 8, 1981. The property is a single-family residential home, approximately 1700 square feet, with a finished basement and a two-car garage. The current Muslim population in Cache Valley is approximately 500 people. As Cache County is one of the places in the US for
recent Afghan refugees to settle, we anticipate the population will reach around 800 next year and keep growing significantly in the years to come.
Growing Pains
Since the inception of the Logan Islamic Center, we have experienced significant growth and development. However, due to various constraints, we find ourselves unable to proceed with property renovations without jeopardizing compliance with City codes. These codes encompass crucial elements such as parking capacity, fire suppression systems, and adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The demand for our mosque’s facilities has been consistently high, often resulting in capacity constraints. This is especially evident during our significant holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, during which worshippers have been compelled to pray outdoors or in a different venue due to the limited interior space. Furthermore, our current facilities are insufficient to host the wide range of intercommunal social activities we aspire to hold, particularly those involving our neighbors from the LDS community. Compounded by our inadequately sized parking lot, attendees are obliged to park on restricted residential streets, causing inconvenience during the week.
Addressing these concerns is of paramount importance to us, with the primary goal of the new mosque project being the resolution of the deficiencies present in our current structure. In line with our commitment to sustainable practices, we envision incorporating eco-friendly design principles and materials. Our team envisions merging traditional Islamic architectural elements with locally relevant features.
Our endeavor to enhance the capabilities of our religious center underscores our commitment to fostering an inclusive and accommodating environment. Through this expansion, we aim to create a space that not only respects our religious traditions but also aligns with contemporary standards of accessibility, safety, and community engagement. Your support in this transformative journey is deeply valued and will contribute to the realization of a mosque that stands as a testament to unity, sustainability, and cultural integration.
A New Place to Call Home
We aspire to establish a space that provides a true sense of belonging, where attendees can experience comfort and coexist harmoniously with our neighbors.
The decision to embark on the construction of a new Mosque is substantiated by a multitude of advantages, as follows:
- Adequate Parking Capacity: Addressing the ongoing issue of parking limitations to ensure a seamless experience for all attendees.
- ADA Compliance: Ensuring our facilities are in adherence with the Americans with Disabilities Act to offer inclusivity and accessibility to all.
- Enhanced Sunday School Facilities: Establishing a dedicated Sunday school area to accommodate and cater to the needs of all children.
- Improved Women’s Area: Significantly enhancing the environment and amenities of our Women’s area to ensure the comfort and engagement of our female community members.
- Increased Attendance and Community Engagement: Creating a modern and inviting space that fosters greater attendance and connection within our community.
- Enhanced Facility Safety: Implementing safety measures to ensure the security and well-being of all congregants.
- Reduced Maintenance Costs: Developing a new facility equipped with modern materials and technologies, thus leading to reduced long-term maintenance expenses.
- Facilitating Future Expansion: Selecting a new site that allows for future expansion, ensuring our capacity to meet the evolving needs of our community.
The estimated cost for the construction of the new mosque facility is approximately 3.5 million dollars, which includes a dedicated amount of $500,000.00 for the acquisition of the land required for the mosque’s construction.
Your support and involvement in this endeavor are pivotal, as they contribute not only to the creation of a welcoming and modern place of worship but also to the enrichment of the lives of our congregants and the broader community. Together, we can build a foundation of unity, accessibility, and growth that will resonate for generations to come.
